Description
About Raw Cashew Shell
Raw cashew nut shell is a byproduct of the cashew processing industry that can be utilized as raw material to produce cashew shell oil and as fuel for energy. While cashews are a popular food item worldwide, the hard outer shells, which make up around 70% of the weight, are typically discarded.
Cashew shells contain approximately 10.8% water and 2.6% ash. With a net calorific value of 18.9 MJ/kg, cashew nut shell falls within the average biomass fuel range of 14-21 MJ/kg. The cashew shell is used to extract cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL), which is an important byproduct of the cashew industry. CNSL has a wide range of industrial applications, including the production of resins, coatings, and polymers.
